A sweat bee nectars on the tiny individual flowers (disk florets) within the flower head of a sunflower. What resemble large petals are ray flowers. The disk florets closest to the ray flowers are open and ready for pollenation, while those closer to the center of the flower head have yet to open. While moving from one tiny floret to another, the bee spreads pollen and pollinates the plant.
