Forest, mosses and deer-browsed understory, Hlk'yah Llnagaay, Windy Bay, Haida Gwaii, BC

Lyell Island, site of the former village of Hlk'yah Llnagaay, was the site of a logging protest that led to the protection of the area and the creation of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site. A trail at Hlk’yah G̱awG̱a runs along Windy Bay Creek and winds through old-growth western hemlock, red cedar and Sitka spruce. This is the last intact watershed on Lyell Island.
