Adams with their dog Luna after they were warned of trespass, and forced to leave a broken down van they were sleeping in, Saturday, August 14, 2021. The couple, who are unhoused, were camping near a cemetery when they were given 10 minutes to leave, and then a friend loaned them a van that had a busted radiator, but the engine ran out of water and blew up. Sullivan said he pushed the van to a spot on a grassy area, but someone called the police on them for trespassing, so they had to take what they could carry, and leave the van behind. They had stayed at the Wheeler Mission, but had a disagreement with another resident, who woke one of them up, so were asked to leave for three days. The couple said they ate taco shells Saturday, and are hungry, so they were walking to Community Kitchen to find something to eat after being warned of trespass, then they will try to figure out what they are going to do. Snider said she had an accident 4 years ago, and was impaled, then had to sell her house for 16k, and has a traumatic brain injury. Sullivan said he grew up with a parent who was addicted to crack, and was regularly beaten, and now suffers from PTSD. Both admitted to self medicating, but Snider, who said she’s had legal problems in the past, said she was clean until relapsing during COVID, and wants to get her life back on track, and find housing.
