The first thing that comes to mind for most when talking about photographing the Palouse is the endless hills of farmland planted in varous crops creating all sorts of pattenerns, the amazing views from Steptoe Butte and barns. There are also many other treasures to be found such as this one. This is the Manning-Rye covered Bridge also know as the Harpole Bridge. The bridge crosses the Palouse river and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge was built in 1922 for the Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad(S&IE) connecting Spokane to small towns in the Palouse area. The S&IE also know as "the Bug", became a big part of the population boom in the early 1900's in Eastern Washington. This electric-powered passenger train, or "interurban" linked Spokane to the faming comminites in the Palouse not only becoming a popular form of transportaion but also a way to transport commercial goods. Due to the instualation of bus depotes along with more personal vehicales being purched, S&EI ended passenger service in 1939. The line was used sparcely when finally in 1970 it was completley taken out of service. The Manning-Rye bridge is one of the last remaining pecies of this histoic rail line. I offer a variety of landscape, nature and wildlife images and fine art digital paintings. I also have many agricultural, farming and countryside images as well. Most of my work is from around the Pacific Northwest, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, British Columbia, and Alberta. Please look through my galleries or visit my website to view my full portfolio.
