Leon Serpollet in his Gardner-Serpollet steam car, Nice, 1903. Serpollet set a world land speed record in 1902, driving along the promenade at Nice at kmh in a steam-powered car. He manufactured steam cars under his own and the Gardner-Serpollet name until his death in 1907.
