Lord Henley of Carlisle wins best marmalade for Peer of the Realm at the World Marmalade Championships at Dalemain Hse , Cumbria
Environment minister Lord Henley has been crowned the best marmalade maker at the World’s Original Marmalade Awards and Festival – thanks to a secret recipe from his mum. Lord Henley photo Lord Henley It was the third time Lord Henley, who farms at Scaleby near Carlisle, had entered the awards, this time using his mother’s recipe for a traditional orange marmalade. He was presented with the gold cup for scooping best in show by Sandys Dawes, master of the London-based Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, when the award winners were announced yesterday at the close of the sixth annual international marmalade festival at Dalemain, near Penrith. His creation will now be produced by Thursday Cottage and sold at the prestigious Fortnum & Mason in Piccadilly, London.
