Linen sampler on which is embroidered with silk two alphabets (printing letters, gothic), a number series, three shields, two crowns and two hearts with initials and ANNO 1771, This type of sampler served as a teaching tool for the marking of napkins and handkerchiefs, which were used on both sides and in which no offsets or attachments should be visible. The numbers 1 to 9 and the number 10 were practiced to number the linen. The use of the letter Q in the alphabet is early for 1771.
