Bayerischer Platz U-Bahn railway station entrance outside Bella Itallia Eis Cafe in Berlin Schöneberg. Bayerischer Platz U-Bahn railway station serves U4 & U7 lines of the BVG commuter Network. The U4 station opened in December 1910. It was designed by Johannes Kraaz and is a protected historic landmark. The south entrance resembled a pergola and was integrated into Fritz Encke's architecture in the square. It was destroyed during WW2 and replaced by the glass-fronted south entrance building in the 1950s The modernistic design was by Rainer G. Rümmler and colourful art was mounted on the inside walls. This entrance was largely demolished, renovated and enlarged in 2013 with a second entrance giving access from Innsbrucker Straße. The new upper floor houses the Café Haberland and a roof terrace. A multimedia permanent exhibition in the café commemorates Jewish life in the neighborhood. The newly designed station received the environmental award "Green Buddy Award" in 2014 in the category of ecological construction. This was awarded for the use of tunnel air as a heat source and thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The North Pergola style entrance with the wrought iron railings and pilasters survived the war and is only station entrance on the line to be preserved. The wall tiling is in blue & white, the Bavarian Heraldic colours, and the stairwells are surfaced with fossil-bearing rock. In the platform area, the original white and blue wall tiles and two original kiosks, one with the original tiling, also remain. The U7 part of the station, designed by Rainer G. Rümmler, opened in 1971 and also uses the Bavarian colours - walls are clad in blue fibre cement panels, the supporting columns are white and the station name is placed on a white horizontal stripe
