Its twenty-five spacious rooms afforded generousaccommodation for the guests who were eager to acceptthe invitations of Colonel and Mrs. Tayloe. Among theentertainments provided for these guests by the thought-ful hosts were concerts by a band made up entirely ofslaves who had been instructed by their master. Onoccasion this band was taken to the town house atWilliamsburg, the capital of the State. The letters of Washington show that the builder ofMount Airy was an ardent patriot, and his friend andassociate. These two men were joint executors of theestate of one of the Lees.
