A Tesco Metro store at Holy Corner, Morningside, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

2006 saw the opening of this controversial Tesco Metro store at the site of a former garden centre at Holy Corner in Morningside, Edinburgh. Local traders and shoppers were opposed to the opening of this store in a area which is already well served by independent retailers and an outlet of Waitrose further down the street. Opposition was supported by the Edinburgh Green MSP Mark Ballard. It can be seen that some effort has been made to blend the building into its surroundings as the shop sign is partially hidden behind the front elevation.
