During the May Fourth Movement, Ren Bishi used the summer vacation with his classmates to perform "civilization plays" and give speeches here and at Peach Blossom Gallery and other places to carry out anti-imperialist and patriotic propaganda. The May Fourth Movement was a Chinese anti-imperialist, cultural, and political movement that grew out of student protests in Beijing on May 4, 1919.
