Palais de St Cloud, Vue du Midi

The view taken in 1828, shows the Palais de St Cloud, Vue du Midi which is of ancient origin and named after St Cloaudus grandson of Clovia. It was built by Jerome de Gondy and then passed on to many other owners. Eventually it came to Louis XIV who gave it to the Duc d’Orleans who employed the architects Lepantre, Gerard and Mansard. The garden was the work of La Notre. Marie Antoinette and Napoleon both liked it and enclosed the Petit Parc. The principal front looks at the Cour d’Honneur. The image was drawn by J Nash under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by Fenner Sears and Co.
