A skilled freehand artist painting a vase in the atelier ( Studio) at the world’s famous Delftware factory in Delft, Holland. Depending on the size of the product, it could take an artist just a few hours. For a large floral decorated vase, it takes an average of two days. A person entering the atelier, serves a ten-year apprenticeship before being allowed to call themselves, a master painter. The qualified person is then specialised in either painting traditional Dutch landscapes, portraits or flora. The artist uses various fine brushes and the black pigment is diluted with water just like using water colour paint. One tiny slip of the brush renders the product to either being sold as a second in the gift shop or broken up into tiny fragments and sold to be made into a mosaic.
