The situation thenexisting in the city regarding the theo-logical education of the students of theChurch was. the practical outcome of theevents of the Disruption itself. Dr Black,who had been Professor of Divinity inMarisehal College, had come out withthe Free Church party, and on him therenaturally devolved the care of the studentsbelonging to the new body. In October,1843, the Committee for College mattersreported that Dr. Black had beenappointeda Professor of Divinity, with Aberdeen forthe sphere of his labours.
