A Joe "Chauffeurs" the Baby. Escorting natives to an internment depot during the battle for Saipan, an American soldier is snapped by a Coast Guard combat photographer as he pushes the baby carriage with its tiny passenger through the heavy going of loose sand. Accompanying them is an aged grandmother, her face graven with grief and bewilderment, being supported by her granddaughter. The natives, descendants of Jap colonists in the Marianas, were taken out of the fighting areas during the assault on the Saipan beaches.
