The battle between Uhtred, son of Waldef, Earl of the Northumbrians and the combined forces of Mael Coluim (II) mac Cinaeda (Malcom so of Cyneth, King of Scots) and Owain the Bald (King of Strathclyde) is considered by many to be the reason why the Scottish border is where it is today. The reenactment took place on the Holme, a large field next to Carham Church which sits next to the River Tweed on the English side of the border, and quite possibly the site of the battle (the exact location of which is not known).
