It is remarkable, however, that there isrecord of but one case of discipline. This occurred in1870, when a member was suspended from the com-munion of the church. There may have been otherswhich were not recorded. But the indications arethat the idea of discipline, which had prevailed informer times, was held in abeyance. This would be inaccord with the change which has taken place in manyof our Presbyterian churches. In all other respects theykept close to the constitution of the church. Theircontest with the Board of Trustees, upon the questionof beneficial offerings, was persistently pressed, untilan unconstitutional by-law of the Board was repealed,settling a most important question.
