But in its unique coloring it certainly does surpass this latter kind, and in the richness of the coloring has no rival in the widely famed genus to which it belongs. Happily, too, it is a variable species, as witness the pleasing shades of deep pink or clear or deep rose, as the case may be. NEW HYBRID LILY BURBANK. Originating in California, its introducer says : " This new lily must be seen in its fullest development to be justly appreciated. The wonderful fragrance is so intense that, with a favorable wind, it can often he detected at a distance of four miles. Taller spikes, more flowers, and larger flowers are produced each season, single bulbs forming, in the course of a few years, grand immense clumps with fifteen hundred to two thousand or more blooms from each clump. Single spikes of flowers are from i to 3 feet long and bear from twenty-five to one hundred and fifty individual blossoms. Color of flowers, yellow with brown spots.
