I have aWilks hot water boiler, 24x48 inches; there are two 2%-inch holes in the top for flows and six 2%-inch holes in the bottom for returns. Can I con- nect a 3-inch main flow to the two holes first mentioned and then take off a 2%- inch flow for each coil of 2-inch pipe! How should the returns be arranged! Should smaller pipe be usedf Will this boiler be large enough to heat the three houses, illustrated on the sketch sent, to 55 degrees, with hard coal. One house is 9x40 feet, with 4-foot side walls. The second house is 12x45 feet, with 4-foot side walls, and the third house is 24x60 feet, with 4i^-foot side walls. Will you inform me as to how I may best arrange my heating system? A. B. M.—^Tenn. -The writer is not sure regarding the heating capacity of the boiler, but if the figures represent the diameter of the grate and the height of the boiler respectively, it ia judged that the boiler lacks capacity for heating the three houses, since a rating of about 1,200 square feet of radiation is needed. The flow pipes can be handled by con- necting them with a 3-inch header. Bather short nipples should be used for connecting both the flows and returns with the header. In the house 9x40, it would be advisable to use two 2^-inch flow pipes and four 2-inch return
