Protein analysis. Gloved hands of a technician pipetting protein samples into a multi-well dish. The samples are being prepared for automatic sequence analysis by the micro-sequencing machine seen in the background. It uses a chemical method to remove a protein's constituent amino acids one by one. The protein's sequence can provide information concerning its structure, identity and function. Proteins are the major structural building blocks of the body and also form enzymes that promote the body's biochemical reactions. The determination of the function of all proteins expressed in the body is known as proteomics.
