Along the road came the heavy rollof the guns, mixed with the jingling of bits,and the clanking of the steel scabbards of thecavalry. The infantry marched on behind with on Ma} 30th, reached the village of Ghazi-ud-din-Nagar, near the river Hindun, about tenmiles from Delhi ; and here the bugler hadbarely time to call to arms when the rebelsopened fire wdth heavy guns placed on a ridge. The first few rounds from the insurgentguns, wrote an eye-witness, were admirablyaimed
