Park General San Martin, on the western margins of Mendoza, was constructed in 1896 as a healthy air 'ling of the city' of environment after the diphtheria, cholera and measles epidemics associated with the disastrous earthquake of 1861. Lago del Parque (Lake of the Park), 1000m long and 100 m wide, was constructed in 1906. The lake is a venue, in Western Argentina, for 700m rowing English architecture Regattas Club, seen here on the left side of the view, is also a sporting institution for indoor swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball, judo and table tennis. There is also a gym and club restaurant. A lake front French-style promenade and rose garden, seen here on the right side of the view, was constructed in 1919.
