EAST CHINA SEA, Japan (March 27, 2018) Damage Controlman 2nd Class Jarred Babauta, from Alburn, Ala., ignites a portable exothermic cutting unit (PECU) during a Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) aboard the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Chief (MCM 14). Chief is undergoing INSURV to examine the ship’s operational capabilities and readiness for future mine sweeping operations.
