Traditional pink heather covering ancient forest moorland in the Cairngorms National park in Scotland, United Kingdom.

Bell heather flowers earlier than the traditional Scottish ling heather which adorns the Scottish hills in late august and early September. Ling heather is a moorland plant growing in boggy peat and heaths throughout england and Scotland, whereas bell heather is more suited to dryer and sandy conditions and is more vivid in colour.
