Medallion with a portrait of the Roman Emperor Domitian, 16th century. Domitian (51-96) became Emperor in 81. He was the last Emperor of the Flavian dynasty. Traditionally he has had the reputation of being a tyrannical despot responsible for the persecution of Christians and Jews, although some modern historians dispute this view of his rule. Found in the collection of The Hermitage, St Petersburg.
