Mrs. Hatch nowresides in Plymouth, Mass. LIEUT. ROBERT HENDERSON, U. S., R. Henderson, son ofCapt. Robert and Sarah Ann(Marsh) Henderson, was born inPortsmouth, N. H., April 16, attended the Portsmouth Acad-emy for some time. When but amere boy of eleven years, he wastaken by his father, a ship captain,on a voyage around the world. Onarriving in San Francisco in 1851,his father died; but he continuedthe voyage with another his return to Portsmouth, , in 1852, he entered the Univer-sity and remained two years. Hethen studied in the Nautical andNavigation school in New York,imtil 1857, when he began hiscareer as a sailor. In a short time, hewas given command of a ship and en-gaged in the merchant service inEuropean and East Indian waters,visiting nearly every important portin the Lieut Robert Henderson. 500 NORWICH UNIVEESITY. [1856 On the breaking out of the Civil War, he offered his services to the UnitedStates Navy, and in 1863, was commissioned acting ensign; was ordered to theWest Gulf Squadron, Admiral Farraguts fleet, where he served until the closeof the war. In October, 1865, he was commissioned a heutenant in the UnitedStates Revenue Cutter Ser\ice; served in the waters of the Atlantic and Pacificoceans and the Great Lakes until 1869, when he was placed in command of Island, one of the Pribloffs Islands in the Behring Sea to protect theseal fisheries. After two years service, his health beginning to fail, he wasordered home and was placed on the retired list of the department. Since hisretirement he has resided in Los Angeles, Cal. and Brooklyn, X. Y. He is amember of the Episcopal Church. He was married in New York City, March 24,1862, to Theresa Walbach,daugh
