Near the (2M.) unpretentious SchwattenfallRestaurant a footpath leads to the left across the Tamina and thenascends via Valur to (72 nr0 Wartenstein (see p. 79), and 72 M. 78 — Map, Ilagalz farther on diverges another path, leading to (3;4hr.) the village ofPfafers (p. 79). Both these paths are shady, but steep and slipperyin wet weather. The road next passes through a rocky gateway,and in 1/4 nr- more reaches the convent-like buildings of — ft KG A\I. Bad Pfafers or Pfavers (2245). The bathing establishment,situated in a shady spot at the mouth of the ravine in which thespring rises, contains 300 beds (pens. 7-9 fr.; Swiss clientele). Thecharge for private baths is 1 fr., for public baths 50 c. Temperatureof the water 95°Fahr. The season lasts from June 1st to Sept. 15th. Tickets for the gorge and the spring (1 fr.) are sold in the chiefcorridor of the bath-house. After traversing the long corridors weemerge in the impressive *Tamina Gorge (30-50wide; 550 length), along which an easy pathway is carried, resting on therock or on masonry, 30-40 above the torrent. The attendant opensa door admitting to a narrow shaft, filled with vapour, and, layingaside hat and overcoat, we follow him to the spring, which flows atthe rate of about 660 gallons per minute.
