The Smollet Fountain, Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The fountain was erected in 1870 in honour of Alexander Smollet, the Laird of Bonhill. Born in 1801 Mr Smollet was elected MP for Dunbartonshire from 1841-1859in this post he worked to improve living condiitions in the Vale, notably being concerned with the provision of drinking water.
