University Hospital, by Dr. Charles K. Mills, Feb. 22, 1910. The FRAZIER-SPILLER—SPIXAL CORD TUMOR All patient had been married eight years, had two children, and had ahvaj-s enjoyedthe best of health, except for occasional fainting spells, the last of whichoccurred eight years ago. Two years previous to admission, pain began in theback of the neck and left shoulder which somewhat resembled rheumatism andwas treated as such. Later the pain, which was sharp and shooting, came atintervals lasting from five to twenty minutes, and gradually extended downthe arm. There was also a sensation of numbness in the left arm, leg and foot, and later decided weakness on the left side (Fig. 14).. Fig. 13.—Illustration reproduced from drawing made at operation to showrelation of the posterior root of the fourth cervical segment to the tumor. Examination.—Sensation for touch, pain and temperature was was moderate, inconstant impairment of the sense of position of the lefthand. The grip of the left hand was impaired. Amplitude of motion in the leftextremities was somewhat restricted due to muscular weakness. The scapulo-humeral reflex was slightly greater on the right, as were also the coracobrachialand the biceps tendon reflexes. In the lower extremities the reflexes were allincreased, those of the left side being greater. A Babinski reflex was presenton the left only. There was no ankle clonus. Tonicity of the left lower limbwas somewhat increased, of the others normal. Electrical reactions in theleft arm were normal. 478 AKCHllES OF NEUROLOGY AXD PSYCIIIATKY The roentgenogram showed a shadow to the outer side of tlic fou
