Pauline Kirby (1905-1981), US Army nurse. In 1954, Lieutenant Colonel Pauline Kirby of the Army Nurse Corps (ANC) was appointed Chief of the Nursing Service at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC, USA. Kirby had joined the ANC in 1926, serving as the US Army's assistant director of nurses in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. She assisted with the establishment of neuropsychiatric hospitals for wounded soldiers. Photographed on 4 May 1954.
