This in-sulation has been introduced both above the false floor-ing and behind the finishing material at the sides of thecar, being cut to form, and set in place as shown in oneof the accompanying construction views. Car Body In its general arrangement the car body followsstandard practice, except, perhaps, in regard to appears in the comparatively high seating capacityof eighty-two, which figure has been attained with anover-all length of 69 ft., 5 in. by the adoption of a spacing, the seats being designed with relativelythin backs upholstered in rattan. The side post spac-ing agrees with the seat spacing. The car length of. UNDERSIDE VIEW OP ONE-HALF OF UNDERFRAME the car body is 59 ft. Because of the ample clearanceprevailing on the trunk line of which the electrifiedzone is part, a width over side sheathing at the sills of9 ft., 9 in. is permitted, and this in turn permits a seatwidth of 3 ft., 51 in. and a 24-in. center aisle. Freedom from combustible material has been em-phasized in the interior construction. In fact, onlywindow sills, sash, arm rests on seats, and toilet hopperseats and covers have been made of wood. In general,Cuban mahogany has been used for these details, andthe scheme of interior decoration has been made tomatch the color in the lower portion of the car, whilethe headlinings are painted in pearl gray enamel. For the interior finish steel and waterproof materialhave been used throughout, including integral windowframes which extend from the window stooling to theplate molding. Wainscoating between window stool-ing and seat-rest angle is of mate
