US Civil War -- Major-General William Tecumseh Sherman and his staff on July 19, 1864, at Union Fort #7, during the siege of Atlanta. Sherman is leaning on the cannon's breech. After his capture of Atlanta, Sherman swept through Georgia, destroying everything of value to the Confederacy, thereby seriously weakening the Southern army's supporting supplies system.
