It is a strong and rapid grower, attain- ing a height of 30 feet or more, with beautiful fern-like foliage, and literally covered with a blaze of circular cardinal-red flowers from mid-summer till frost. The flowers, about 1J inches in diameter, are borne in clusters of 5 to 7 each. Like other Ipomoeas, it delights in a warm, sunny situation and good soil. The seed may be started in- doors in March or April, in a temperature of not less than 70 degrees, but it is just as well to wait until the weather gets warm and settled and then sow out of doors.
