The intrepidnerve and skill required to navigate a rowboat through this tortuouschannel is well exhibited in the illustration given herewith. This featwas successfully accomplished by Col. Bond, of Montreal, in companywith a friend, under the guidance of the intrepid Indian chief, BigJohn, with two of his trusty oarsmen. In our view showing a section of the Victoria Jubilee Bridge, made from an instantaneous photograph, it will be seen that a lumberraft, with all its belongings, has successfully made the perilous run of therapids, and is still intact. To the hardy lumbermen who make these. trips, the work partakes nu)re of hard labor than of novelty ; but to theoccasional passenger, who tempts Providence by venturing thepassage, it affords an experience full of startling sensations, andthronged with memories not soon forgotten. After passing theLachine Rapids, theriver widens again, and a turn in thechannel reveals a-head of us the fa-mous Victoria Jul)ileeBridge, under whichwe glide, and ansoon at our wharf inMontreal.
