The South Beach Alligator Farm (or St. Augustine Alligator Farm) was a tourist attraction founded in 1893 at the end of the tram from St. Augustine across Matanzas Bay to Anastasia Island. Pictured here c1910 with Everett C. Whitney's Burning Spring Museum in the background, the Alligator Farm (with live gators captured from the island) was moved further inland in the 1920s due to beach erosion. The pictured original location is now several hundred yards into the Atlantic Ocean. Photo by Harris.
