The Normal Art School is on Washington Street, between Concord andWorcester Streets, in a building long known as the Deacon House. Thisis a state institution, primarily a training school for teachers of drawing in thepublic schools of the state. A building especially for it is being erected on thecorner of Exeter and Newbury Streets. George H. Bartlett is the director. The Commonwealth Hotel, on Washington Street between Worcester and BOSTON ILLUSTRATED. 115 Springfield streets, is the leading one of the few hotels in this district. It iswell and favorably known, especially as a winter residence for families. Thenaaterial of the front on each of these streets is marble. The hotel is finelyfinished and furnished throughout.
