Holy Well (Schorne Well) at North Marston where Sir John Schorne performed healing miracles; taken April 1995, restored 2004/5

The Holy, or Schorne, Well, North Marston, was founded by Master John Schorne, rector of the nearby Parish Church 1290-1314, who performed many miraculous cures of fever and gout at this well, and throughout the Middle Ages at his shrine in the church. Sir John, who became a popular saint, dramatically created the well for his parishioners during a drought. He was renowned for his holiness and for conjuring the Devil into a boot. The pump was dry when this photograph was taken in April 1995. It was renovated in 2004/5 and is now under a modern, tiled-roof shelter.
