Taylor was born inBoston, Mass., September the 15, 1819Ho came to South Carolina and whilea teacher in Cokesbury, S. C, in 1843was studying medicine with a view ofpreparing himself for missionary was admitted on trial into the SouthCarolina Conference in 1844. Dr. Taylor says: The starting pointoi the mission of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in China was at thehouse of Mr. Ferdinand Gibson, on theDarlington circuit of the South CarolinaConference; Saturday, August 16,1845 Charles Taylor was the junior preacher(his senior was Rev. Jackey Bradley)having Dr William Capers as his presiding elder.
