Ferry Cottage, Rye, East Sussex, was builtin the 1780s. It housed the ferryman whose job was to take pasengers across the Rother to East Guldeford.
Ferry Cotage was built in 1780 as a dwelling for the ferryman who organised passage across the river ay Rye to East Guldeford on the far bank. For over 100 years it was the only way to cross the river Rother. The ferry was launched from a slipway next to the cottage. The first road bridge was built c1890.
