190615-N-SS350-1008 GULF OF OMAN (June 15, 2019) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG 87) transits the Gulf of Oman in close proximity to the petrol chemical tanker M/V Kokuka Courageous while the tanker is towed into port. Mason is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
