Edward B. McLean, between 1909 and 1923. American newspaperman and racehorse owner Edward Beale McLean, publisher and owner of The Washington Post. McLean purchased the Hope Diamond, traditionally believed to carry a curse. He was declared legally insane, and died in a psychiatric hospital.
