Female banded demoiselle damselfly (Calopteryx splendens) on a bramble leaf (Rubus sp.). Damselflies undergo incomplete metamorphosis. This involves three stages of development; the egg, nymph and adult stage. The adult female lays eggs in water and nymphs emerge when the eggs hatch. Winged adults emerge after the nymph has moulted several times. Males have translucent wings with a dark blue iridescent band, whereas the females have pale green iridescent wings. Photographed in summer.
