ELEANOR RIGBY Situated in Stanley St, Liverpool. The statue of ‘Eleanor Rigby’ was sculptured by Tommy Steele in 1982 as a tribute to the Beatles and donated to the City of Liverpool for “half a sixpence”. The plaque is dedicated to “All the lonely people” and is named after the song by Paul McCartney and John Lennon from the Beatles album “Revolver”. Although Eleanor Rigby is a fictitous character, a grave can be found in the local church of St. Mary’s, Woolton. Inside the bronze sculpture a number of items were placed namely:- a four leaved clover representing nature, a page of the bible representing spiritual matters, a football sock representing leisure, a ’Dandy’ and ’Beano’ representing comedy and four sonnets representing romance.
