Redressing wounds. Doctor changing the dressings on the ulcerated lower legs of a patient with chronic lymphoedema. Lymphoedema is localised fluid retention (oedema) caused by a compromised lymphatic system. Lymph vessels carry lymph fluid round the body and are also part of the immune system. Lymphoedema may be inherited or caused by injury to the lymph vessels.
