The coarser brown particles, when mounted in balsam and viewed under a tolerably liigh power, arc seen to be in many cases more or less perfect examples of obscure arenaceous Foramiiiifera belonging to the genus Ilajtlophraqmiuni. A single speci- men of Stackeia was also met with. Tlie white sand is much finer and consists of siiarp angular quartz-grains.
