Practical human anatomy [electronic resource] : a working-guide for students of medicine and a ready-reference for surgeons and physicians . he hand and digits thefollowing special terms are used : proximal, distal, dorsal, inner, outer, and lateral. Bones and Hone Areas for Muscle Attach-ments, Plate 163.—The posterior surfaces of thedistal end of the humerus, of the ulna and ra-dius, and those of the bones of the carpus, meta-carpus, and digits (phalanges, phalangines, andphalangettes) form the osseous plane of this dis-section. The posterior surfaces of all these bones, except those of the carpus, present areas formuscle attachments. Dissection.—Make skin incisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 ofFigure 13 (if the dissection of the posterior of the arm haspreceded, this dissection incision 3 will not be required);reflect flaps as indicated. If the anterior of the forearmand hand has been dissected, the skin will have to be re-moved; otherwise, the skin flaps may hang off from thesides of the limb. Find a bursa upon the olecranon processof the ulna; trace the veins and nerves in the subcutaneousplane of the forearm and Figure l. Bursa, Plate 164.—A bursa presents at the surface ofthe olecranon, which varies in size in different subjects. 296 TTPPEK EXTREMITY. 2. Posterior Ulnar and Radial Veins.—A variable numberof subcutaneous veins present upon the dorsal surface of thehand, which receive tributary veins from the digits. The pos-terior ulnar vein has a proximal course from the dorsal veinsof the hand through the inner half of the forearm ; its proximalend winds to the anterior surface of the elbow, where it joinsthe median-basilic vein (page 208 ; Plate 123). The posteriorradial vein has a proximal course from the dorsal veins of thehand, through the outer half of the forearm ; its proximal endwinds to the anterior surface of the elbow, where it joins themedian-cephalic vein (page 208 ; Plate 123). 3. Posterior Cutaneous Merves of the Forearm, Hand, andDi
