Pressure sore on the left buttock of an 81 year old male patient, after a hospital admission for COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Pressure sores (or bed sores) can be caused by many factors including unrelieved pressure, friction, humidity, etc. They usually afflict the frail and elderly, wheelchair bound people and the terminally ill. Treatment at this stage is with antiseptic creams, a rigorous cleanliness regime and frequent change of position to relieve local pressure.
