A Winterfat subshrub growing in its native habitat of the eastern Colorado short grass prairie.


Winterfat as seen here has set seed which will be distributed by the wind. It is a valuable source of protein in the winter for browsing wildlife and domestic animals. Notice the house fly on the tip of the right stem.
