The Lord Mayor of Worms, Adolf Kessel (left), hands over the chain of his office to the Bojemääschter vun de Fischerwääd (mayor of the fishermen’s lea), Markus Trapp (middle), who keeps it until the end of the festival. The largest wine and funfair along the river Rhine, the Backfischfest started in Worms with the traditional handing over of power from the Lord Mayor to the mayor of the fishermen’s lea. The ceremony was framed by dances and music.
