For a time Birg-fields excellent band enjoyed almost a monopoly of local engagements,and was, in fact, in much demand for all home parades and other demon-strations through the war. General Order No. 91, October 26th, 1861, provided that no morebands for volunteer regiments were to be mustered in, and that vacanciesoccurring in the bands should not be filled.
